Sail Húsavík begins today and the boats have been arriving a few days now. Tonight some more arrived including some sailboats from the Faroe Islands. I went to check on some of the crewmembers of the ketch Dragin and the sloop Johanna. They told me that the passing from Faroe Islands to Iceland had taken about 2 and half days and that the weather had been good for the most parts although they would have liked more wind for their sails. They seemed really happy to be in Húsavík and had many questions about the surrounding area, North-Sailing and North-Sailings boats. They were very proud of their boats; telling me when they had been built, where and how fast they had got coming here.

Sail Húsavík is a festival celebrating the coastal culture of the Nordic Countries. There will be a lot going on in Húsavík relating to this festival. Art shows, concerts and lectures are among the things that will be on offer during this next week in Húsavík. This is the first festival of what will become an annual celebration and will be held in a different country each year. Hopefully this is the beginning of something big.
